Learn about Stockholm Syndrome with iMinds insightful knowledge series. At first glance two of the 1970's most notorious bank robberies would seem to have nothing in common. They occurred eight months apart, for different motives, on opposite sides of the globe. But these two incidents would prove seminal to the development and understanding of a curious and once controversial psychological condition; Stockholm Syndrome. On the 15th of April 1974, the Sunset District branch of the Hibernia Bank in San Francisco was robbed. Security footage showed a young, attractive urban guerrilla brandishing a machine gun and ordering people in the bank to lie face down on the ground. iMinds brings targeted knowledge to your eReading device with short information segments to whet your mental appetite and broaden your mind.

”Midnight Baby - Horror Lolita” by Alessandro Manzetti, Bram Stoker Award® finalist in 2014, is the horror story of a visionary and contemporary Lolita. Rita spent her childhood in Rome, raped by her father and his depraved friends, a circle of monsters wearing strange masks. She becomes the Midnight Baby, a doll of flesh, a sexual game that evolves from a nightmare into something different. The relationship between father and daughter changes when Rita become a woman. Her terrible childhood transformed Rita from the Midnight Baby, docile and passive, into the killer Lolita, seeking revenge, love, and herself in the balance between the eternal return of the past and the delirium and hallucinations of the present, using her chainsaw, driven by Johnny Cash’s songs and the unknown voices in her head, until she fulfills an extreme, forbidden dream. A creepy, cannibalistic, violent, and passionate vision of her entire life. “Die Romantic - The Virgin, the Mother, and the Old Lady” by Stefano Fantelli tells the story of Amanda, a victim of rape who comes back from the afterlife thanks to her anger and a strange prayer to the stars. Time listens to her words and intervenes, giving Amanda the freedom to wander around the city of Bologna, torturing and devouring her favorite prey—men. But she is not alone. Her projections of the present and future have returned from the afterlife with her. They are two ghostly and ruthless figures, hidden in the shadows, who will guide Amanda on her bloody mission. Amanda becomes a living Trinity of Time: The Virgin, the Mother, and the Old Lady. Fabio is their favorite victim. Amanda will be his goddess, lover, and executioner, who will lead him through sex, beauty, and pain, all of which will give him true awareness. But love changes the entire game: Amanda’s mission, entrusted by Time, is likely to fail in a plot of love, death, and the relentless ferocity of revenge.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In psychology, Stockholm Syndrome is an apparently paradoxical psychological phenomenon wherein hostages express empathy and have positive feelings towards their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, who essentially mistake a lack of abuse from their captors for an act of kindness. The FBI's Hostage Barricade Database System shows that roughly 27% of victims show evidence of Stockholm Syndrome. The Syndrome is named after the Norrmalmstorg robbery of Kreditbanken at Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm, in which bank employees were held hostage from August 23 to August 28, 1973. In this case, the victims became emotionally attached to their captors, and even defended them after they were freed from their six-day ordeal. The term "Stockholm Syndrome" was coined by the criminologist and psychiatrist Nils Bejerot, who assisted the police during the robbery, and referred to the Syndrome in a news broadcast. It was originally defined by psychiatrist Frank Ochberg to aid the management of hostage situations.

Usually assigned to protecting politicians, he has fallen out of his boss’s good books after getting too close to his last charge’s son, but when rising Hollywood star and Academy Award nominee Bryan McTiernan receives peculiar letters and requires the best possible protection, Dan is put on the job. While he agrees that the letters are more than harmless fan mail, he finds it impossible to narrow down his suspicions and Bryan isn’t helping by alternately seducing and irritating the hell out of him. Against his better judgement, Dan falls for Bryan’s manipulations, but the more he gets to glimpse behind the façade of the young actor, the more he realises that something in Bryan’s past has a strong hold over him. While both Dan and Bryan are aware of this, neither sees the full extent of his fixation. With the help of Gabe, a fellow bodyguard and friend, Dan pursues different theories and even hires a private investigator to learn about Bryan’s well-hidden past. What he discovers has the potential to destroy more than just a promising career, and in the end, Bryan has to make a choice—allow for his past fixation to take him hostage again or run away and into Dan’s open arms?
